About Me
I’m Tara Sleeman, a UX/UI designer with a sprinkle of motion.
I have always had a passion for design. My younger, naive self thought I was safe – design and art would never be replaced by a computer… whoops!
A childhood friend and mentor of mine consistently emphasised the importance of IT, which led me to pursue a career in that direction.
During my time at university, I had the opportunity to start in the field of UX as they had just introduced a new course for it. A year later, a tutor provided me with valuable advice to combine UX/UI with motion design. (Thank you Ali for this guidance!)
Over the years, I have worked as a freelancer, volunteered, and taken on projects outside my comfort zone. These experiences have all contributed to broadening my perspective and influencing the type of work I aspire to pursue.
I draw inspiration from the natural world and prioritise ethics and compassion for all beings. Good design accommodates everyone’s needs and accessibility should be easy and beneficial for all.
The slightly longer version...
I was raised in a Buddhist family where I was taught the importance of compassion and kindness towards all living beings from a young age. This awareness of interconnectedness led me to recognise the ethical responsibility to be vegan.
I am a dedicated advocate for animal rights, promoting compassion and empathy for all beings. I strive to raise awareness about the inherent suffering and cruelty within industries that exploit animals. I am inspired by Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary’s motto: “If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others.. why wouldn’t we?” It is not simply a question of possibility, but a moral imperative for us to embrace.
Working exclusively with organisations that share my personal ethics is an absolute must for me. Life is not a matter of profit. By unequivocally standing for what I believe in, I refuse to compromise my principles, even if it means sacrificing potential business opportunities.
...What's the reason behind your logo design?
The logo may look like half a chakram a la Xena: Warrior Princess but it is actually my surname, Sleeman.
Or technically, SLMN, as I love a four letter brand name.
